Have PC computers become a commodity?

It seems that PC computer sales have flattened out recently. I would speculate that consumers need a better reason for new hardware. Checking email and web surfing are not enough for a tipping point. Apple is gaining by empowering us to be content creators. Who doesn’t want to be creative?
